  • Magical City

San Francisco is such a wonderful, magical, fantastical city! I have to also state that there is a sad and scary side to this place, as well.

Example: as I paused outside my hotel to determine which direction I should take, I was accosted by a man with a boombox. He said he was just trying to 'get some sex.' 'Don't look at me, I'm married!' His reply was something along the lines of not necessarily with me. I waved him off as he tried to continue talking to me. At least people leave you alone if you don't want to help them. Well, except for one man down by the piers. After dark, he scares passers-by who don't notice him sitting there by the fence. I swear he was there eight years ago, too, when we visited before.

Tonight we visit Alcatraz at sunset. I've been told that place is creepy, too, but we shall see.

Our hotel is called Fusion. It's a good name for San Francisco, I think. This place is such a mix of old-world style juxtaposed with new, ultra-modern styles and ideas.

Question: why do gay guys flirt with girls? Oh, it makes a girl feel good, to have a 'safe' guy flirt with her, but I just wonder the reason, when he doesn't want to follow-up. Yeah, there is a lot of time to think about things on the way to places around here.

I went to the San Francisco Wholesale Flower Market this morning. I have never seen so many orchids all in one place--and that was just a couple of the dozens of vendors there! I took pictures, which I will upload later--maybe tomorrow morning.

For now, I think I will take a little cruise to one of the shopping neighborhoods to get some lunch and window shopping in. So much to see, and so little time!

By the way, the weather has been fantastic! Not too hot in the daytime and not too cold in the evening. Some people around here say it's boring.

  • We flew to Philly in a turboprop. It only seats about 36 people. Poor John's knees hit the seat in front of him. I was nervous that it would be bumpy, but it really wasn't. It's exciting to take off and land, seeing the ground drop away so quickly, cars becoming tiny dots. The further away from the earth we got, the more things down there seemed to move slowly. Farm land, hills, football fields, strip mines, and ski slopes all took on a fascinating new life viewed from the air.

As we approached the landing, I looked down and wondered if anyone was looking up wondering if anyone on our plane was looking down wondering about them. I do that a lot, but usually from the ground.

Our plane to San Francisco just arrived at the terminal. Staff just reported that the flight will board at 3:05 PM, which is about 25 minutes from now. (well, that was trivial and insignificant)

Well, I guess that's all for now. See you in 'Frisco!

  • We had a wonderful weekend in the wonderful creation of God that men like to call the Adirondack Park.

Starting with a 3.5-hour drive to Schenectady for dinner, we found our destination at Bolton Landing in a wonderful cottage on the lake by Friday night. Saturday found us reveling in blue kayaks, ducks, a boat ride, and lots more.

    Among the memories:
~ finding a red-spotted salamander in the wild
~ hiking up part of a mountain and back down again with Caleb--acorn in hand the whole time
~ writing found on a newlyweds' car: 'Tonight's the night. So glad we w8ed!' (yes!)
~ saying on a t-shirt: 'If a man speaks in a forest when no woman is there to hear him ... is he still wrong?' (when I read it out loud to Kim, another customer-male-said, 'Yes!' LOL)
~ Caleb, did you have fun? "Yayyyyyyy!" and clapping from Caleb in response--how cute is
    that?
~ TomTom and Vinyl Cafe' are great traveling companions
~ sighting: a man in camo carrying a rifle along the road in Keene Valley ... is any game in season right now?

pictures to come soon ... I promise!

About Me

  • First a child of God, then a wife, then a mother. I like doing creative things like painting and home decor, but not cooking. I like to teach what life and love and the Lord have taught me. I love listening to the birds singing, walking for a long time in the woods or up a mountain, and enjoying God's wonderful creation. Laughing with my friends or family is an important part of every day!
